Tasting Notes: earthy, wood, mushroom

Description: A spectacular dark aged pu’er tea with a smooth taste with notes of mushrooms, honey, forest, and wood. Our premium Shou Pu’er Tea (an aged ripe varietal pu'er) has been aged for 5-7 years in a high humidity environment in a dark cave in Yunnan province China. The longer a pu’er tea ages the more mellow, complex, and smooth it tastes. This aged pu'er tea offers a wonderful aroma and delicious forest floor flavor of earth, compost, wood, and mushrooms.  An extraordinary tea that feels like you're sipping a cup of ancient history.

The medicinal properties present in pu'er teas are what set them apart. They're known to be powerful digestive aids, can ease stomach issues, are natural detoxifiers, may aid in weight-loss, may ease anxiety, and are said to lower both blood pressure and cholesterol.

Pu'er is an aged and fermented tea that is produced in the Yunnan province China. This ancient tea is now beloved all around the world. It was inadvertently created on the Tea Horse Road, an ancient trade route that spanned from China to Tibet. The thousand mile trade route navigated through mountains with harsh conditions. During the journey, it was found that tea leaves were altered by moisture, varying temperatures, and sunlight exposure. These natural conditions resulted in a fermentation and aging process of the tea. This process created a tea with unique taste profiles and particular health benefits. Nowadays, pu'er tea is deliberately aged and fermented to re-create the tea that was crafted while on the Tea Horse Road.

Ingredients: aged pu'er tea from Yunnan province China

Edward N. ★★★★★

Brewed up a cup last night and the mushroom and honey notes really came through, making for a surprisingly complex flavor. The tea liquor was a deep, almost black color and went down incredibly smooth.

Ellie K. ★★★★★

The smooth, woody notes hit immediately, and that subtle honey sweetness lingers nicely after each sip. I've been brewing it a bit longer than recommended and it stays mellow without turning bitter. Perfect for a quiet evening wind-down.

Edward ★★★★☆

The earthy, mushroom-forward flavor is exactly what I want in a shou pu'er, and it steeps smooth for several rounds without turning bitter. Only reason it's not five stars is the compression is a bit tight, so I have to work at it with the pick before the first rinse.
