Category: EARL GREY

Tasting Notes: bergamot, brisk black tea

Description: A decaffeinated version of traditional Earl Grey. A blend of aromatic Italian bergamot oil and decaf black tea. A classic tea that is popular with milk and sugar or a slice of lemon.

Our decaf teas are created using the CO2 decaffeination process. The advantage of this technique is that no chemical solvents are used to remove the caffeine. In this manner of decaffeination, naturally occurring CO2 is applied to the tea leaf in a circulation process which carefully uses high pressure and temperature to extract the caffeine. A very slight residue of caffeine will remain in the tea leaf, which is why we call them decaf teas rather than no caffeine teas. There will be a slight change in the character and flavor of the tea due to the decaffeination process, but the end result is an uncompromising cup of tea with no chemical overtones.

Please note: If you'd like a 100% naturally caffeine-free tea, we suggest that you try our large selection of no caffeine teas such as: herbal teas, rooibos teas, honeybush teas, and fruit tisanes.

Ingredients: decaffeinated black tea, bergamot, orange, apple

Steep Directions: steep 1 heaping teaspoon of tea per 8 oz boiling water, 205-212°F, for 3-4 minutes

I’ve been searching for a decaf black tea that doesn’t taste flat, and this one keeps that bold, brisk character with the bergamot coming through nicely. The aroma is genuinely aromatic, not faint like some other decafs I’ve tried. Perfect for a late-afternoon cup without the caffeine jitters.

The bergamot oil in this one really comes through — it’s fragrant and zesty, not at all like the flat decaf teas I’ve tried before. The brisk black tea base keeps it satisfying, and I’ve been brewing a cup every evening without missing the caffeine.

I was skeptical decaf tea could still taste this robust, but the brisk black tea base holds up perfectly with the bergamot. It’s my new go-to for evenings when I want that classic Earl Grey flavor without the caffeine keeping me up.
